The biggest family of snakes in the number of species. It includes around three fifth of the whole number of snakes. This family is represented in Arabia by around 15 species: Platyceps elegantissimus (GÜNTHER, 1878); Platyceps insulanus MERTENS, 1965; Platyceps manseri LEVITON, 1986; Platyceps thomasi PARKER, 1931; Dasypeltis scabra (LINNAEUS, 1758); Eirenis coronella (SCHLEGEL, 1837); Hemerophis socotrae (GÜNTHER, 1881); Lytorhynchus diadema (DUMÉRIL, BIBRON & DUMÉRIL, 1854); Lytorhynchus gasperetti LEVITON, 1977; Platyceps rhodorachis (JAN, 1865); Platyceps saharicus SCHÄTTI & MCCARTHY, 2004; Platyceps variabilis (BOULENGER, 1905); Platyceps ventromaculatus (GRAY, 1834); Rhynchocalamus melanocephalus (JAN, 1862); Spalerosophis diadema (SCHLEGEL, 1837); Telescopus dhara (FORSKAL, 1775).
